KSFI Deflagration Proof In-Line Flame Arrester
KSFI Deflagration Proof In-Line Flame Arrester Overview
ZIRCO is proud to distribute KSPC KSFI Deflagration Proof In-Line Flame Arresters as the official representative for Western Canada. These passive safety devices are designed, manufactured and tested according to international standards including API 2000, BS 7244, EN 12874 and ISO 16852, providing essential flame protection for pipeline systems in industrial facilities.
The KSFI units are completely passive devices with no moving parts, ensuring reliable operation without mechanical failure. They prevent flame propagation from the exposed side to the protected side by using a 316L stainless steel crimped metal ribbon flame cell element that creates a matrix of uniform openings carefully engineered to quench flames through heat absorption.
Built by Korea Steel Power Corp. (KSPC) to the highest standards, these in-line flame arresters are specifically designed for slow-moving flames and low to medium pressure fronts (low to medium deflagration), delivering dependable performance in demanding pipeline applications throughout Western Canada's oil & gas, petrochemical, and processing sectors.

Maintenance Requirements
Periodic inspection and maintenance is required to ensure continued optimal performance and safety compliance. The KSFI in-line flame arrester is designed for maintenance access to minimize downtime in critical pipeline operations.
The cell assembly can be removed for cleaning purposes. Cleaning can be accomplished by dipping the entire cell assembly into an appropriate solvent. Care should be taken not to damage the cell openings as such deformations may hamper the flow through the cell and reduce effectiveness.
The gaskets should be inspected regularly and replaced if necessary to maintain proper sealing and prevent bypass of the flame arrester element. ZIRCO provides maintenance support and replacement parts for Western Canada customers.
What Is a Deflagration Proof In-Line Flame Arrester?
A deflagration proof in-line flame arrester is a safety device installed within pipelines to prevent the propagation of flame from one section of the pipeline to another. Unlike end-line flame arresters that are placed at vent pipe openings, in-line flame arresters are installed within the pipeline itself, protecting against flame travel through the piping system.
The KSFI utilizes a flame cell element comprised of crimped metal ribbon 316L stainless steel that creates a matrix of uniform openings. When flame attempts to pass through the element, the heat is absorbed through the metal surfaces, cooling the flame below its ignition temperature and extinguishing it before it can propagate further down the pipeline.
"Deflagration proof" means the arrester is designed to withstand and stop deflagration flames - subsonic combustion waves with low to medium pressure fronts. The KSFI is specifically designed for slow-moving flames typical in many industrial applications. As a completely passive device with no moving parts, it provides reliable protection without the risk of mechanical failure. ZIRCO provides expert application support for Western Canada industries, helping you select the right in-line flame arrester for your specific pipeline safety requirements.
