KSFE Deflagration Proof End-Line Flame Arrester Overview

ZIRCO is proud to distribute KSPC KSFE Deflagration Proof End-Line Flame Arresters as the official representative for Western Canada. These critical safety devices are designed, manufactured and tested according to international standards including API 2000, BS 7244 (British Standard Specification), and EN 12874 / ISO 16852.

The KSFE units allow free venting in combination with flame protection for vertical vent applications. They prevent flame propagation by absorbing and dissipating heat using spiral wound crimped ribbon 316L stainless steel flame cells, providing essential protection for storage tank facilities throughout Western Canada's oil & gas, petrochemical, and refining sectors.

Built by Korea Steel Power Corp. (KSPC) to the highest standards, these flame arresters deliver reliable performance in demanding industrial applications, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protecting valuable assets from the devastating effects of flame propagation through vent lines.

whatshot

Heat Dissipation Technology

Prevents flame propagation by absorbing and dissipating heat through spiral wound crimped ribbon 316L stainless steel flame cells, effectively stopping flames from traveling through vent lines.

security

Automatic Safety Release

For sizes 4" and under, after ignition the fusible element melts and the spring-loaded cover automatically opens, exposing the full surface to prevent the element from reaching ignition temperature.

Maintenance Requirements

Periodic inspection and maintenance is required to ensure continued optimal performance and safety compliance. The KSFE flame arrester is designed for easy maintenance access to minimize downtime in critical operations.

The cell assembly can be removed for cleaning purposes. Cleaning can be accomplished by dipping the entire cell assembly into an appropriate solvent. Care should be taken not to damage the cell openings as such deformations may hamper the flow through the cell and reduce effectiveness.

The gaskets should be inspected regularly and replaced if necessary to maintain proper sealing and prevent bypass of the flame arrester element. ZIRCO provides maintenance support and replacement parts for Western Canada customers.

What Is a Deflagration Proof End-Line Flame Arrester?

A deflagration proof end-line flame arrester is a safety device installed at the end of vent piping on storage tanks containing flammable liquids or gases. Its primary function is to prevent the propagation of flame from the external atmosphere into the tank's vapor space, protecting the storage vessel from explosion or fire.

The KSFE utilizes a flame cell element comprised of spiral wound crimped ribbon 316L stainless steel. When flame attempts to pass through the element, the heat is absorbed and dissipated through the metal surfaces, cooling the flame below its ignition temperature and extinguishing it before it can reach the tank interior.

"Deflagration proof" means the arrester is designed to withstand and stop deflagration flames - subsonic combustion waves. "End-line" refers to installation at the open end of vent pipes rather than in-line. The KSFE is specifically designed for vertical vent applications, providing reliable protection for storage tank facilities throughout Western Canada's industrial sector.
